TAGDev 2.0 is aware of these critical issues and, accordingly, plans to recruit and engage at least 25% of its 120,000 participants from among RDPs. The Program will implement targeted measures that ensure the inclusion of refugees and displaced youth to ensure they are skilled, especially for entrepreneurship development and community action.

The program will provide access to TVET education, by focusing on out-of-school RDPs many of whom are excluded from continuing their career development and miss out on unlocking their potential. TAGDev collaborates with refugee agencies to identify and recruit young women and men to pursue TVET education, with a focus on early career development.

The program focuses on enhancing access to university education for young RDP women and men. At universities, the Program will implement bridging programs to increase RDP students.

The program aims to utilize the out-of-school youth competence training framework to equip young women and men with skills that will enable them to participate in the economy and secure fulfilling livelihoods. This extends to other priority countries, such as Sudan, Chad, and Mali. To ensure young people remain focused on the Program, the following are embedded in most of the activities:

Increasing labour market inclusion into formal financial and market systems;
Building entrepreneurial skills using inclusive approaches that support nutrition-sensitive agriculture and income security;
Strengthening leadership and networking capacity for robust integration in society;
Leverage other youth complementary programs and actions, that aim to keep young girls healthy, in school and empowered.
Link youth groups, especially out-of-school youth, to opportunities that unlock non-farm employment and other work opportunities.

My name is Walter Masakure Manyangarirwa, a Zimbabwean born in Mutare in Eastern Zimbabwe. I started Primary Education in Mozambique before returning to Zimbabwe to complete Primary education. I completed Secondary Education in 1991, and in 1992 I enrolled in the First intake of Africa University. In December 1994, I graduated with a BSc in Agriculture and Natural Resources majoring in Agronomy. I proceeded to enroll for a Master of Science in Crop Protection at the University of Zimbabwe in February 1995. I graduated with a Master of Science in Crop Protection in December 1996 and started working as a research assistant in Virology in the Department of Crop Science at the University of Zimbabwe from January to June 1997. In July 1997 I joined the Plant Protection Research Institute as a Research Officer in Plant Pathology and rose to become a Senior Research officer. In 2001 I graduated with a Post Graduate Diploma in Seed Pathology from the Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University of Kopenhagen, Denmark. I worked as a lecturer in Plant Pathology at the University of Zimbabwe from 2002 to 2003. In 2004 I joined Africa University as a lecturer in Plant Protection, and in 2005 I enrolled for a PhD in Entomology at Clemson University in South Carolina. I graduated from Clemson in 2009 and returned to work at Africa University up to the present day.

Dr Jan Willem (J.W.) Swanepoel is a senior lecturer and researcher affiliated to the Centre for Sustainable Agriculture, Extension and Rural Development at the University of the Free State. He is responsible for curricula development, especially in the field of economics, teaching, supervising numerous Masters and PhD students, and conducting research.

Before starting his academic career, he filled top management positions in every organization he worked for. These include an embryo flushing facility and a meat and offal processing facility, where he is still regularly consulting. He is also the co-owner of a private further educational training college that specialises in providing courses and skills training in management and information technology.

In his endeavours, Dr Swanepoel led a research project on agricultural extension for the Food and Agricultural Organisation (FOA) of the United Nations (UN). This research lead to numerous presentations at conferences and an award for the best scientific paper at a national conference. He was also part of the team that won the International Advanced Case Study Competition in Miami, Florida in 2017. Another project concerning successful land reform projects, were documented as case studies, and feedback was provided in a keynote presentation at the Africa-wide Agricultural Extension Week in 2017 in Durban, South African

In all his endeavours, he adopted a vast knowledge of business management and the agricultural value chain as a whole. Dr Swanepoel is passionate about making a difference to the food insecurity situation in the world by focusing on sustainable rural and urban agricultural and social development.

Dr. Petros Chigwechokha

Dr. Petros Chigwechokha is a Senior Lecturer and the Head for the Department of Biological Sciences at Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST). He holds a PhD in Molecular Biology from Kagoshima University. His key research focus is environmental and wastewater-based multi-pathogen detection through genomic approaches. A recombinant technologist by training, his interests extend to synthetic biology and biosystem modulation to explore the physiological functions of proteins in fish models.

Dr. Chigwechokha has developed a keen interest in wastewater-based epidemiology and is currently involved in wastewater-multi-pathogen surveillance in resource-limited settings. With more than 24 publications in international journals and numerous presentations both locally and internationally, Dr. Chigwechokha has made significant contributions to the field. Having dedicated over a decade to academic institutions, he has taken on various leadership roles and has extensive experience in curriculum development and academic program implementation.

Festus K. Annor-Frempong is an Associate Professor in Agricultural Extension Education in the Department of Agricultural Economics and Extension, School of Agriculture, University of Cape Coast, Ghana. He is currently the Head of Department and manages the teaching, training and research activities in the Department. He has an oversight responsibility for running the Sasakawa Guest Centre facility that generates income to support teaching and research in the School of Agriculture. He is currently training graduate and undergraduate students in agricultural extension and education, project management, programme planning, monitoring and evaluation, advanced research methodology, organizational management and administration and applications of new and multimedia production for education. He has over 20 years teaching experience at the university level and has trained many graduate and undergraduate students. He has coordinated The “Supervised Enterprise Projects”. These projects use the experiential learning and action research principles to identify problems and introduce appropriate agricultural technologies and solutions to small-scale farmers in Ghana.
Due to the successes, the concept has been applied in over 25 programmes in nine African countries. He has consulted extensively for World Food Programme, USAID, FAO, JICA, IFFRI, Ghana poultry Project on agriculture, extension education, rural and community
development related projects. The researches have assessed the situation and needs for strengthening agricultural education, extension, training and development, support for communication and rural youth and adult programmes. He has served on a number of boards and steering committees in the University of Cape Coast
